Martyrs Day: Lessons To Learn From Supreme Sacrifice By 3 Pillars Of India’s Freedom Fight

martyrs day 23rd march

Martyrdom by our great heroes Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev gives us a chance to learn the lessons from supreme sacrifice our freedom fighters have done to realize the potential of freedom and happiness to our forthcoming generations. Days like ‘Martyrs Day’ which is celebrated in India to pay homage to our great heroes of long driven freedom fight is such an act of valour and courage.

When you are given a chance to ‘Live in a golden cage’ with all available services at your doorstep, you will get best food, best attire or anything else you wish and you will get it no time. Remember this chance is only given to you in exchange of your freedom of speech, to roam around anywhere,  you will be bared to take decisions, no wonder you feel like you are ruled by autocrat.

In the given situation ‘What will be your decision?’

Its simple ‘NO’, nobody likes to be caged in any form despite given utmost facilities within that perimeter of this caged boundary because it is nothing less than a imprisonment.

Same was the answer by our great revolutionary socialists and great Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar who fought for Indian freedom and its Independence from cruel British rulers. The difference in the story of Indian freedom fight was that cruel British rulers were looting the then ‘Golden Sparrow’ which was the synonym of India as it was immensely wealthy, prosperous and had great Socio-economic system where everyone was living in joy and prosperity.

During the days of freedom fight in India things were going worse by each passing day. British dictators acting on the directions from United Kingdom rulers were on the spree to loot and devastate everything available in the country. They wanted to demolish the country to that extent where people had to undergo great struggle even for the two time meal of the day.

This suppression of human rights and brutal ruling had forced people from all walks to raise voices against these atrocities. The people started reacting in different ways where some went on to hunger strikes as it was the most admired and in use tool to show your disregard and impatience in that sense to the people with whom you are not happy. These hunger strikes were observed all over India to show that dissent which was on rise with each passing day amongst people of India against British autocrats and ferocious rulers.

The British were neither bothered nor concerned with these hunger strikes wherein many Indian people were dying because of observing these strikes. Then there was another section of people who wanted to revenge these atrocities done by British rulers in their own way, they wanted to give taste of its own medicine to these cruel dictators. They perceived the way of revenge with guns and ammunition the same method British were using for centuries to oppress the common man of India and this section of fighters were sick and tired of barbaric acts of these ruthless autocrats.

The great Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar are believed to be the three pillars of India’s freedom movement. They fought against the brutal rule of British whole their life with all possible means they had. The reason behind the hanging of great martyrs Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar was that they wanted to avenge the assassination of Lala Lajpat Rai another freedom fighter who was leading peaceful protest against Simon commission.

Simon commission which was the seven British member group had been dispatched to India in 1928 to study constitutional reforms in Britain’s most important colonial dependency. People of India were opposing this because it was commission full of British members so Indians were expecting it to be biased as there was no Indian representation in this commission. Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai was heading the grouping of peaceful protestors but British started baton charge on them and due to serious bruises he succumbed to injuries.

Later with consultation and guidance of Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh along with his companions Rajguru and Sukhdev he executed Saunders who was the senior police officer and the main culprit of Lala Lajpat Rai’s assassination. After executing Saunders they managed to escape and hide for few days as they had better plans to work upon for the independence of their homeland.

After hiding for some time they planned to inspire masses to revolt against British atrocities. During 1929, they were protesting against the enactment of Public Safety Bill and the Trade Dispute Act which was passed by the then Viceroy using his special powers despite the fact that the bill and act was rejected by the Assembly already. They planned to attract the mass towards their agitation and cause behind it and subsequently they decided to bomb the Central Legislative Assembly, he and his companion Batukeshwar Dutt threw two bombs and leaflets inside the assembly. As the bombs were designed not to kill just to make some noise and support for their cause there were serious damaged caused due to these bombings. At the same time after they throw the bombs in the assembly they offered themselves for arrest.

Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt being held in jail on the charges of murder and bombings inside assembly, after sometime Rajguru and Sukhdev were also got arrested on murder charges. After case trial were held in ‘British Special Tribunals’ and an appeal to the ‘Privy Council in England’ they were convicted of murder and bomb conspiracy charges. Later these revolutionaries were hanged by British authorities.

As martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar was criticized all over India, people gathered in large numbers to protest the hanging of these martyrs. The daring act of these martyrs has become a great inspiration for youth even today.

23rd of March is declared as the Martyrs day in India to remember and commemorate the supreme sacrifice they had done for their beloved motherland. This is the time we recall those sacrifices done by our ancestors to bring the happiness called freedom to us. They were the real Heroes and will be remembered always by the grateful people of their country.
