Leaders vs Managers

Some people say leaders are born and other says that they are trained and created. What would be your response to a situation when you are the in charge and responsible for the outcomes of the acts you do completing any given task? It makes complete sense when you say I’ll work as a manager or as a leader.

So what is the basic difference when you say a manager or a leader? People in general from corporate and society thinks and says that manager’s first responsibility is to manage the things whether leader has that one unique trait of incorporating him or herself to accomplish a task and he or she would not be hesitant to go that extra mile to perform his/her duties, neither leader would try to avert risks while taking decisions or actions.

General idea of completing any task either for manager or for a leader is to get mentally prepare first. Next is to ascertain the goal or a job to be done. Having a clear and right plan is must for the success of the task. Knowing your strengths, weaknesses, available opportunities and threats which could be arise is the perfect plan to execute the task. Other basic things which need to be done are coordinating with the people who are engaged with the task, organizing the resources required to reach to the finish line of set goals and controlling and checking things whether everything is going smooth and things are going the way they were planned.

So when almost all the things are equal when performing a task vis-à-vis manager and leader’s actions. What makes difference between these two??

It is all about going that one extra step towards goal while performing tasks which makes the difference between a manager and a leader. Extra step of being patient, having confidence, have the better abilities of good organizer, compassion, smartness, positive approach, most sought after thing clarity in  his Vision behind the action and last but not the least incorporating him/herself with situation and the team.

A firm and determined leader will be better opt than to be anybody else and he/she will be able to create those leaders like him from his surroundings. If leader believes in his/her abilities and strengthen them as per the objective more it will be beneficial with better and positive results. When you develop good relations with people regardless of their social status and treat everybody with courtesy and respect more there will be chances of growth of everybody.

  • It is general phenomena that managers accept status quo in any situation whereas leaders challenges it all the time.
  • Managers are assigned with a task supposed to be completed in stimulated time frame and then they make people doing things, whereas leaders inspire people to do things.
  • Managers are said to have working for short term goals and targets whereas leaders work with a long-range perspective where everybody will be benefited for long term.
  • Managers generally asks ‘How & When’ and then leaders asks ‘What & Why’ to complete a task.
  • Managers always believe that they are doing things right and leaders have slight view change and say they do the right things.

You can say that this is the race of becoming Leader from Manager as taking control and attracting followers cannot be better than giving control and creating leaders of future. Instead of giving instruction give people intent, intent to work and outperform all the time.  Making responsible to people is the mantra behind every remarkable success as then you have many leaders who are going into same direction they are no more just a followers. They are the people or rich resources able to implement or conclude any deal or task.

In today’s time it is all about quick and reliable information which can make or break any institution. Other idea to create the environment of Greatness is to allow people to think and come up with more suggestions and information, move the authority where the information is, which will prove beneficial for everybody ultimately. This really makes difference when you see the results after you inspire people to become a leader.
